Susan is an experienced classical Christian educator having homeschooled for many years and now also having taught in classical and Chritian schools since 2020. Susan has B.A. from Tabor College, and an M.A. in Philosophy (in a Great Books program) from Clarks Summit University. She loves spending time with her husband and four kids and is particularly passionate about the works of Charles Dickens and other British authors around the same time period.

I’ve used STGB guides for my own personal study – the guide for Dracula brought out Christian themes in the novel that I hadn’t seen before. I’m currently using several guides in my middle school Humanities classroom, and I’m so thankful for the level of detail and variety of questions from all levels of the Trivium that I’ll be able to draw from in class.

Theological and Cultural Commitments:

  1. Jesus Christ is the unconditional Lord over every square inch of the universe and is, therefore, Lord over all the various arts, sciences, and disciplines of study.
  2. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through him. There is salvation by no other name.
  3. The Bible is the infallible, inerrant, and authoritative word of God. It is sufficient for the instruction of God’s people concerning all matter of Christian faith and practice.
  4. The ecumenical Creeds of Christendom are faithful summaries of Christian doctrine (Apostle’s Creed, Nicene Creed, Definition of Chalcedon, and the Athanasian Creed).
  5. The Reformed faith is affirmed as a reliable expression of the Christian faith and the Westminster Confession and Catechisms, as well as in The Three Forms of Unity are held to be useful for providing guidance in better understanding the doctrines of the Christian faith.
  6. God has ordained that the church and the family as the primary building blocks of society. Men and women are equal in value, intelligence, in salvation, and many other respects. Even so, God has clearly stated that the church and family are to be led by godly Christian men and that the roles of men and women in the church and home differ in such a way as to glorify God.
  7. God designed mankind, in his own image, male and female he created thm. There are no other categories for sex or gender besides male and female and God never makes mistakes so as to have created anyone in the wrong kind of body.
  8. Human sexuality is a positive good, it was God’s idea, but he ordained that it should be expressed and enjoyed only within the life-long covenant of holy matrimony between one man and one woman until death parts them.
  9. STGB rejects all theories of race, gender, or any other categories which fall under the broader idea of Marxist Critical Theory, as godless and contrary to plain reason and biblical truth.

Study The Great Books provides concise studies of the Great Books–fantastic for home educators who use the Classics.
